JOURNAL ETHICAL CODE
«Bollettino dell'Opera del Vocabolario Italiano» is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that follows the Code of Ethics for Publications developed by COPE - Committee on Publication Ethics, Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines). It is necessary that all parties involved - Authors, Publisher, Editorial Board, Reviewers - are aware of and share the following ethical requirements.
Governing bodies
«
Bollettino dell'Opera del Vocabolario Italiano » is directed by the Director of the Opera del Vocabolario Italiano Institute of the National Research Council, and is co-edited by an Editor-in-Chief, assisted by an eight-member Editorial Board. The two co-editors and the eight members of the Editorial Board form the journal's Executive Board.
Duties of the Publisher
The Publisher provides the journal with adequate resources as well as the guidance of experts (e.g., for graphic design, legal, etc.) so as to carry out its role professionally and enhance the quality of the journal. The Publisher shall take care to finalize a contract that defines his relationship with the magazine owner and/or Executive Board. The terms of said contract must be in line with the code of conduct for publishers of scientific Journals developed by COPE. The relationship between the Executive Board and the Publisher must be firmly based on the principle of editorial independence.
Executive Board’s duty
The Executive Board is responsible for deciding whether to publish articles submitted to the journal. In making its decisions, the Executive Board is required to comply with the guidelines of the journal and the criteria for review for publication.
Selected articles are submitted for evaluation by one or more reviewers selected by the Executive Board on the basis of competence criteria, and their acceptance is subject to the implementation of any requested changes. In the event of a wide discrepancy between the two reviews, a third reviewer will be consulted.
Manuscripts are evaluated for their scientific content without regard to the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, scientific, academic or political orientation of the authors.
If any of the organs of the journal discover or receive reports of errors or inaccuracies, conflicts of interest, or plagiarism in a published article, they will promptly notify the author and the Publisher. The Executive Board will take the necessary steps to clarify the matter and, if necessary, withdraw the article or publish a retraction.
Duties of the Reviewers
Through the peer review process (with a double-blind or blind review system), reviewers assist the Executive Board in making decisions on proposed articles and may also suggest corrections and improvements to the author. If they do not feel up to the task proposed, or if they know that they will not be able to read the paper within the required timeframe, they must inform the editorial staff immediately.
For contributions strictly related to the mission of the Opera del Vocabolario Italiano Institute, the Executive Board reserves the right to independently assess the scientific validity and publishability.
Any text sent for review must be considered confidential and must not be discussed with others without the express permission of the Executive Board.
The review must be objective, impartial, appropriately motivated (both positive and negative) and clearly expressed. No form of insulting or unfounded criticism is allowed. Otherwise, the Executive Board may modify the review before sending it to the author.
Reviewers undertake to inform the editorial staff of any similarities or overlaps between the text received and other works of which they are aware.
Any confidential information or advice received during the peer review process must be considered confidential and may not be used for any other purpose. Reviewers are required not to accept for review articles in which they have a conflict of interest due to previous collaborative or competitive relationships with the author and/or their home institution.
Duties of Authors
When submitting an article to the journal, authors must comply with the editorial criteria available on the journal's website.
Authors must declare that they have written the original work in its entirety and have properly cited all texts used. Where the work and/or words of other authors are used, they must be properly paraphrased or quoted literally.
Authorship of the work should be properly attributed and all those who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution and revision of the research underlying the article should be listed as co-authors.
All authors must declare explicitly that there are no conflicts of interest that could have affected the results obtained or the interpretations proposed. Authors must also declare the funding bodies, if any, of the research and/or project from which the article is derived.
Manuscripts under review should not be submitted for publication to other journals.
If an author discovers a relevant error or inaccuracy in one of his or her articles, he or she must inform the editorial staff immediately and provide all necessary information to indicate the appropriate corrections.
