The OVI is engaged in higher education in the fields of lexicography and digital humanities, with particular focus on the acquisition, and refinement, of skills needed for the development of the TLIO and for the management of the textual databases implemented in GATTO software. The OVI training activity is divided into three types:

Internships intended for doctoral students from partner universities, who are trained as writers of TLIO entries and as GATTO database managers. Internships have a duration of 300 hours and provide full participation in the day-to-day work of the OVI Institute.

Advanced training in specific aspects of the writing of TLIO entries for the OVI collaborators at the University of Notre Dame (Italian Studies Program, coordinator Demetrio S. Yocum). Training activities take place both in videoconference, and at the OVI Institute for two weeks during the summer (OVI Summer Internships for Students).

Basic training intended for students in the humanities or PhD holders in linguistics, philology, and literature who wish to acquire essential skills for the the writing of TLIO entries. The main requirement is familiarity with medieval texts written in different Italo-Romance linguistic varieties and with basic Italian lexicographic tools. The program includes a 5 day (from Monday to Friday) training period at the OVI Institute, the assignment of some TLIO entries, to be written with the help of the OVI online resources, and discussion of relevant issues that may emerge during revision of the entries. The training activity, which may lead to publication of the assigned entries, is not a trial period for employment, and does not provide reimbursement for travel and accommodation exspenses. International Ph.D.in Philology and Criticism (curriculum in Romance Philology) established at the University of Siena (administrative headquarters), together with the University of Pisa, the University for Foreigners of Siena, the CNR Institute Opera del Vocabolario Italiano, and with the support of the Fondazione Ezio Franceschini ONLUS.
The internship activities (see section 1 above) will be held on the four quarters of the year (fron January to March, from April to June, from July to September, from October to December); in 2023 the basic training session (see section 3 above) will begin on September 11th, and end on September 29th at the OVI Institute, and will be led by Diego Dotto, Rossella Mosti e Zeno
Verlato. The advanced training for Notre Dame faculty and students (see section 2 above) takes place in June or July.
